Northern lights – first try

The other night I went out for my very first try at capturing the northern lights. I know it was much more spectacular and special down by the fjord and away from the city, but up on the hill close to the woods where I live, it was not very spectacular. But still it was green and a bit mysterious anyways. I will test it out again, but there may not be many chances before next winter. I was not very happy with these, but I guess most of the reason is because it lacked that special something in how it looked from where I live.

Anyways, I hope you like my first try at these kind of shots.

A trip around Eresfjord

So as some of you noticed from Friday´s post, we were visiting my husband´s parents this weekend. On Saturday, the weather was a bit grey to start with, but I had already decided that I wanted to go for a walk (with the baby carriage) towards the lake Eikesdalsvatnet. I took the upper road above the river on my way there, and then the road on the other side of the river on the way back. It was a 2 hours walk. And I of course stopped to take some pictures on the way. The weather improved during the trip, and when I came back home the weather was just perfect.

The village Eresfjord is situated between the fjord Langfjorden and the lake Eikesdalsvatnet, in the county of Møre & Romsdal. (There´s a map here, and you can zoom out so you can se where in Norway it is situated) It´s sparesely populated with beautiful surroundings. Next time I will take a walk the other way towards the center of the village and the fjord. Here are my photos from my Saturday walk.

1. The road upwards… I can tell you it´s quite heavy to push the baby carriage up there….

A wonderful weekend

I just had the most wonderful weekend enjoying as much time as possible outside in the fantastic weather.  We’ve been out skiing both days. And since a big camera is not the easiest thing to bring while skiing (and teaching my son to ski), I have had to do with the phone.  So here are some Instagram shots from the last two days, and one from the tram stop the late morning before the weekend.

Sun, snow and water

Today the weather was just too perfect to miss the opportunity, so I went in a bit late to the office and took the time to stop on the way to for a few minutes of photography. New snow over the night, and a nice, warming sun made it all so wonderful. (well, it´s all relative, I guess for all of you not living in Scandinavia, our sun in March is not very warming at all ;-) )

These shots are taken close to railway bridge called “Skansen” by the canal that comes in from the fjord, and also looking towards the Ila Marina and the lighthouse. (featured in a post not long ago - http://ingaphotography.wordpress.com/2013/02/21/ducks-and-boats-and-some-other-things/)

Maybe some day I need to share a map of the city with you so it would be easier for you all to understand where all these parts of the city are. Some day, not today ;-)

view towards the lighthouseIt seems as though I have got some dust or spots either on the lens or inside the camera. As you can see there are spots in the upper part. Very annoying. It´s only one year ago that I had my camera cleaned professionally. Well, I have tried to clean the lens (and the UV filter), sop hopefully that´ll help.

And last a shot from the lane “Drillveita”, a lane with old, traditional wooden houses. This lane is in the city centre, just a few minutes walk from my office.

A foggy day at the cemetery – some years ago

I’m afraid there will not be much time for photography this week, so I thought I’d share with you some photos I took some years ago. It was a foggy winter day, and I went to the cemetery to capture the foggy mood. These photos are all from my Flickr photostream (not very active at Flickr these days, WordPress takes up all my time … ;-) ). I am posting them as they looked like when I first posted them to Flickr, I have not re-edited them. Enjoy :)

Stormy weather

Yesterday we had the worst weather. It had been windy for a few days and with temperatures above zero, the snow was melting. For some that would be a good thing, but even though it´s March now, I would like to skiing a bit more before spring. And spring never arrives in March where I live anyways, not properly.

So yesterday we had very strong wind, with the strength of a storm every now and then. It was stormy throughout the day, and with snow and rain. Definitely a day to stay indoors. Actually the police adviced people to secure their belongings outside and otherwise stay at home.

Here are a few shots taken through the windows yesterday.

With all these grey photos, I just wanted to brighten up my day, and this post, with a purple drop… :)

A grey day

Yesterday started with lots of snow, but continued with lots of rain. It was all very bleak and grey. But we still went outside for a little while and I took some photos of details I saw around me. So as you can see it´s not all perfect winter wonderland all the time here up north. ;-)

Oslo harbour

I have been in Oslo for work meetings the last two days. There wasn’t much time to go outside and I didn’t bring the camera. But before the first meetings yesterday I took a quick walk down to the harbour. This Instagram shot from the phone is taken towards the old castle and fortress, Akershus festning.

I promise I will post some photos taken with the DSLR soon.

Out skiing

As it seems as I will not be able to post proper photos for yet some more days, I thought I’d share a phone shot from yesterday. Yesterday was Mother’s day here in Norway, and it was a lovely day. I had the opportunity to go skiing on my own. I love skiing and walking with my family, but sometimes it’s just lovely to get a break from it all and go skiing in the woods on my own in my own tempo. :-)
